Why is it that I dont eat but am still overweight?

I am often wondered how it is that I eat only once a day usually (due to lack of appetite) but I still gained weight. When I was in my 20’s I ate like total crap…chips and hot dogs, chips and sandwhich, just chips most of the time and yet I only weighed 125 AFTER giving birth to my 10 pound son at 21 and 5′7!! I hate that I dont eat and yet still pay the price. I have learned a little and know that I should be eating 6 times a day but I just cant make myself eat if I am not hungry. I am assuming that this 6 x’s a day is 3 normal meals and 3 snacks, so let me know if I am wrong. I guess my biggest hurdle will be actually eating that many times a day so I need a reminder. Maybe I will set my online calendars up to do that. The moving thing is hard too as my body hurts and I am just to damned tired to get up and do anything most days.  I get overwhelmed easy (so my house suffers) and would just rather not do anything if I cant do it all. My game plan is to at least do my stomach crunches every few days if not every day and move on from there. I will add in more once this becomes a habit…was thinking of yoga maybe. That should be okay for my poor ole body since there is no way that I am the aerobics kind of girl. Strip tease dancing was on my list to try to so if anyone has experience with that and wants to tell me it works or doesnt work, please do!

Please read noodles blog from yesterday titled
Weight war can be never ending…. it explains the way our bodies respond to our eating patterns. Very interesting and informative. I think it will answer all your questions. ;)

Hey - you have changed since the 20s - ur body is different ! Living on a meal a day - ur body is saving everylittle nutrient from the meal - knowing the next one is not coming for another 24 hrs! From personal results - i believe you need to be eating 3-6 meals a day and still totalling the same amount of calories you are aiming for each day. I would recommend eating breaky - even if its little, go onto fitday.com and also taking up brisk walking 30 mins a day to get you started! Good luck !

I use sparkpeople’s nutrition log to see what I need to adjust as far as nutrients go and it has helped me tremendously. You have got to eat a certain amount of calories a day or your body won’t allow you to lose excess weight for fear of needing it one day, wierd I know. It took me forever to beleive that and I still have troulbe but I follow the rule anyway and it works. Also if you are eating to many carbs and not enough protien you will feel exhausted. I went through that just a few weeks ago and once I started tracking my food I saw it and changed it to more protien less carbs and my exhaustion disappeared. Good luck and please try logging your food, it is easy it does all the adding and stuff for you, all you have to do is search for the food and enter it and it will pull up the nutritional facts and add it through the day for you and at the bottom it gives you goals for each.

I agree with the other posters, it’s important that you eat throughout the day, especially breakfast so your body has the fuel needed for daily life, exercise, etc. If you don’t eat all but a meal or two, then your body is always in starvation mode.

Maybe start off with 3 meals and add on snacks once your used to eating again? Weightloss i 80% what you eat and 20% exercise.

    Good luck.

I agree with the rest. The body needs about 1200 calories a day and if it doesn’t get that then it starts storing calories. It goes into starvation mode because it thinks you won’t feed it again. So really try and get in more meals. And everytime you eat, your metabolism goes up too which is a good thing. Without that eating then your metabolism keeps declining instead of being raised. And I also think walking is good for losing weight. Just a nice brisk walk. Crunches are good too for toning but really cardio is best for losing. Hope this helps! Good luck girl!
